The Barclays Group structure has changed

Government reforms mean that Barclays must set up a new ring-fenced bank. We explain what this means for you.

The UK government has brought in new reforms aiming to strengthen the UK financial system following the financial crisis that began in 2008.

In response to this change in UK legislation, we’ve set up a new ring-fenced bank, which Smart Investor has become part of. You can visit our ring-fencing page to find out more about Barclays ring-fencing.

On 30 September 2018, Smart Investor became part of Barclays Bank UK PLC (our ring-fenced bank), and is now provided by ‘Barclays Investment Solutions Limited’ (Barclays Investment Solutions).

What does this mean for my Smart Investor accounts?
