Online banking guarantee
When you use Online Banking, you're automatically protected by our Online Banking Guarantee for your banking transactions. This means that if you fall victim to internet fraud on your Barclays bank account, we'll cover your loss for your banking transactions – no matter how much money is taken from your account – as long as you've used Online Banking correctly. This doesn't include making good on instructions to buy investments through Smart Investor.
Information we collect for online services
To provide you with products and services, we need to collect, use, share and store personal and financial information about you, which includes personal data we obtain from you or from third parties, including credit reference and fraud prevention agencies.
UK retail and commercial banks have a policy to ensure that any conflicts of interest that occur between customers of the Bank, or between a customer and the Bank, are identified and managed according to regulatory requirements.

Site Terms and Conditions
Employer Reporting Service
When you provide consent to compliance reporting, Barclays will apply this consent across all accounts under your control. The company may inform Barclays that the account holder has left their employment and Barclays will remove all associated accounts from our reporting process. Account holders can remove their consent at any time by updating their preferences under My Settings.
The employer will process the information received in accordance with their own policies and this may mean that your data is processed outside of the United Kingdom. Barclays will only send data to jurisdictions where we're confident that similar Data Privacy legislation would be applied as here in the United Kingdom. For more information on how your data will be processed by your employer and the implications, please refer to your employer's compliance/HR department.
We currently have arrangements for PA deal reporting to the employers listed. This list may change from time to time and any employer can ask to be removed from the service or Barclays can remove an employer at our discretion. This service is provided at the request and convenience of the employer to support their regulatory and/or policy requirements. You can ask us to contact your employer to be included in our arrangements. This service is used to help fulfil you and your employer's regulatory obligations as a participant in the financial services industry.
If an employer isn’t or is no longer a participant of the service, Barclays won’t provide any reports or data to that employer. Please note that you may still have a requirement to provide this information to your employer and if so account holders can access trade confirmations and statements through My Barclays documents and forward these to their employer on a self-serve basis.
Accessing third party information
We provide you with financial data and other information published by external providers which may help you make investment decisions. While we believe the content they publish is accurate, we aren’t directly involved in researching it. As such, you need to understand that we share it with you under the following terms.
You warrant and undertake that:
- You'll observe all applicable laws and regulations of any relevant jurisdiction
- You won't use any information from Financial Express in any way that has any unlawful or fraudulent purpose or effect
- Your use of any information from Financial Express and the making of any investment as a result of such use doesn't contravene any applicable laws or regulations of any relevant jurisdiction
- You won't reproduce or distribute any third party content provided by Financial Express without our prior written consent
- You won't transmit any data that contains viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time-bombs, keystroke loggers, spyware, adware or any other harmful programs or similar computer code designed to affect the operation of any computer software or hardware adversely

Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
The accounts you hold with us are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). It’s an independent body set up to settle claims on behalf of clients/customers of UK authorised financial service firms. The FSCS will pay compensation if a bank is unable to meet its financial obligations.
Barclays Stockbrokers is a trading name of Barclays Bank PLC. Your uninvested cash balance is held by Barclays Bank PLC as banker, and is treated in the same way as a cash deposit in a bank account.
Your eligible deposits with Barclays Bank PLC are protected up to a total of £85,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the UK's deposit guarantee scheme.
This limit is applied to the total of any deposits you have with the following: Barclays, Barclays Bank, Barclaycard, Barclays Business, Barclays Capital, Barclays Corporate, Barclays UK & Ireland Private Bank, Barclays International Private Banking, Barclays Premier, Barclays Private Bank, Barclays Stockbrokers, Barclays Wealth and Woolwich Mortgages.
The total deposits you hold above the limit between these brands are unlikely to be covered.

Investment services are covered separately by the FSCS up to a maximum compensation limit of £50,000 per person per firm. The company responsible for providing for your investment services under Barclays Stockbrokers is Barclays Bank PLC.
Your Barclays Stockbrokers account holdings are currently registered in the name of a nominee company, which is the legal owner of the assets. The principal nominee we use is Barclayshare Nominees Limited, which is a subsidiary of Barclays Bank PLC. Under this arrangement, you remain the beneficial owner of the assets and Barclays Bank PLC holds this for you.
In the unlikely event that Barclays Bank PLC became insolvent, your holdings wouldn’t be considered part of Barclays' assets and so would fall outside the assets available to our creditors.
To qualify for compensation you must be eligible under the FSCS rules, which are made by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA) to regulate financial services in the UK and protect the rights of consumers.
For an investment claim to be eligible to receive compensation from FSCS in respect of Barclays Stockbrokers, it must meet all of the following criteria:
(a) The investment services you received must have been provided on or after 28 August 1988
(b) Barclays Bank PLC trading as Barclays Stockbrokers must have been authorised by the appropriate regulator to do so at that time (which it is)
(c) You must have lost money as a result of Barclays Stockbrokers having done something wrong in providing investment services to you
(d) Barclays Bank no longer has sufficient assets to meet claims for compensation.
